A 51-year-old Cotswolds man who stole £750 worth of groceries from a Gloucester Sainsbury’s store in three separate shoplifting raids has been sentenced to do unpaid work for the community. Paul Davies, 51, of Ealy Hill, Duntisbourne Abbotts, near Cirencester, first stole from the Barnett Way store in Barnwood on March 5, 2026, when he took £200 worth of goods.

Just over a fortnight later, on March 23, he returned to the same store and stole £250 worth of goods. Finally, on April 20, this year, he walked out with his biggest haul – groceries valued at £300. At Cheltenham Magistrates Court Davies indicated guilty pleas to all three theft charges and was placed on a one-year community order with an 80 hours unpaid work requirement.
