Business: McCaffreys Hairdressers

Location: 4 Montpellier Avenue, Cheltenham, Glos

Date of Review: March 2014

Reason of Review: Staff member needed a haircut

Greeting:

Upon entering the hairdressers I was greeted by a lady behind the desk in the reception area, moments later I discovered she was my hairdresser waiting for me. A good start I didn’t need to wait as I’m the kind of person who likes to get in and out again as quick as possible.

McCaffrey’s is not the biggest hairdresser in Cheltenham but they use their space well. The bottom floor has the reception and waiting area (waiting???), the first floor is where the cutting and creations are done and the top floor is where hair is washed and I think other treatment are done.

Although she didn’t introduce herself and I didn’t know her name until the very end she did put me at ease right from the start.

Greeting: 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)

Main Room:

The cutting room is the home for 3 hairdressers and is relaxed and quiet. We were not all close to each other so it felt like you had your own space. It was quiet enough to be able to speak to her without shouting over everyone else in the room.

At McCaffrey’s they do things a little different than I had experienced before, they don’t wash your hair until after the cut. I assume this is the case for everyone unless you hair ready needs a clean! I thought this was a great idea. I hate it when you leave the hairdresser with bits of cut hair still on your head, I normally need to go home and wash it again to get rid of it. By washing my hair after cutting I didn’t need too.

Main cutting room rating: 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)

I couldn’t think of anything else they could do, maybe free beer? 🙂

The Cut:

My hairdresser for the day was a young lady and although she hasn’t knocked up too many years in life she seemed to know what she was doing. I found out later on that she is from a family of cutters (is that the phrase?) and had worked with her mum previously.

We discussed what I wanted at the start and she (still don’t know her name at this stage) created it without any fuss. Nice!

As I mentioned above after the cut we went up to the third floor to wash the my hair, OTHER HAIRDRESSERS PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING BIT!!

The washing basins where MANS size!

What I mean by this is they were higher and felt comfortable for my size of body (5′ 10″), this is the first time EVER I was happy to stay there as long as needed. Normally I am in pain somewhere, or I can’t swallow, or I have slide down the chair so my bum is hanging off the end.

Brilliant!

The Cut: 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Rating for Washing area has to be: 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)

Leaving:

After the cut she offered me a hot towel to wipe the back of my neck to remove any rouge hairs that just couldn’t bare to leave me, a REALLY nice touch. Kind of as refreshing as a hot towel on a plane (I wonder if that is where they got the idea from?).

Leaving and paying nice and easy, she gave me a card with her name on it (I assume so I ask for her by name next time) and although just about to leave I was finally introduced to her.

Leaving rating: 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

Overall and Would I Recommend McCaffrey’s Hairdressers?:

One of the nicest experiences I have had in a hairdresser, Yes I would recommend and will do to anyone who will listen.

We don’t normally name and shame the staff on here as it’s not really what we are about, but as there really isn’t much to be ashamed about we will, I’m sure you are all gripped to know her name anyway! 🙂

Hairdresser: Nicki

I will be back unless the boss instructs me to go somewhere else to do a review, I think next time I will book a different hairdresser purely to see if the quality is through-out the business. Come back or follow our RSS pages to read how that visit goes.

Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)
