What is the Cheltenham Gold Cup?

The Gold Cup is a Blue Riband grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase event held at Cheltenham racecourse inaugurated in 1924 and is 3 miles (2.5 furlongs or 5331 metres) long. This race consists of 22 fences which require negotiating before you receive your share of the impressive winnings.
It offers one of the largest purses for this type of event of around £500,000 with the winning horse to receive approx £330,000.
