Cheltenham creep runs off after touching girl's thigh outside cafe

Gloucestershire Police are investigating after a 17-year-old girl was reportedly touched on the thigh by a stranger without her consent. Police said the man approached the girl and her friend while they were sitting outside a cafe on Regent Street, before asking them for directions.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Police said: “The man then sat down next to the teenager and placed his hand on her thigh without her consent. “A member of the public then approached their table and told the man to leave them alone. He said he recognised the man and had seen him following some girls earlier that day, who had been very distressed and scared.
“The suspect then left the table and ran away.” The incident happened at around 8pm on Thursday, May 14. Police said the suspect was described as being white, aged in his mid to late 20s and of a slim build, with messy, ginger-toned hair. He was wearing a brown coloured satchel with a strap across his chest and a sage green jacket which had shoulder pads, added the force.

He was also carrying a mobile phone in a black fabric flip case with a magnetic clasp. “CCTV enquiries have taken place, however investigating officers are asking anyone who may have any relevant footage to get in touch,” the police statement continued. “They are also asking anyone who may have witnessed what happened or who may know who the man is to make contact with them.
“It is understood that there have been no further reports made to police involving a suspect who matches this description, however officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have experienced similar incidents.” Information can be provided to police online by completing this form and quoting occurrence 53260036273.
