Booze thief gets six months to prove he can go straight

Summary

A 33-year-old Tewkesbury man who shoplifted more than £400 worth of alcohol from a Sainsbury’s store has been given six months to prove to magistrates that he can behave himself and go straight. At Cheltenham Magistrates Court Ben Gladden, of St Mary’s Lane, Tewkesbury, pleaded guilty to stealing drinks worth £401-80 from Sainsbury’s in Cheltenham on April 13, this year.

Details

The court deferred sentencing him till April 7, 2027, to give him a chance to show that he can steer clear of crime. Telling him of the deferment, the magistrates said their purpose is to see whether he can stay out of trouble and avoid committing any further offences.
