A new Indian restaurant is officially up and running at the former Ask site in Cheltenham. Bandook has taken over the ground floor of Grade II* listed Hanover House in Montpellier after revamping it following the closure of the Italian restaurant in September last year. “Without my team, I could not have done it and all that remains is for me to hope that we not only meet the expectations of Cheltenham’s residents, but go beyond.” Bandook, which takes its name from an Urdu/Hindi word meaning “gun” or “rifle”, began in Bristol in 2017 and offers casual dining.
It opened up a restaurant in Bath in 2019 and originally hoped to open in Cheltenham in March this year but eventually began trading earlier this summer. Its new Cheltenham restaurant, which is opposite Montpellier Arcade, caters for 120 covers in the main dining room and another 16 in a private dining room.
