Young Sherlock crew transforms Cheltenham street into Victorian set

Summary

The second series of an Amazon Prime TV show is being filmed in Cheltenham as at least two central locations have been transformed into a film set. ‘Young Sherlock ‘, starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the lead role, is once again being filmed in the South West after the first series was filmed in Bristol.

Details

The show , which also stars Joseph Fiennes, the uncle of Fiennes Tiffin, and Colin Firth, is being shot on Montpellier Walk and the Promenade. An advanced notice sign said businesses on Montpellier Walk would be trading as normal while filming takes place between August 2 and 7. It is unclear whether any of the show’s stars are in Cheltenham but the areas involved have been transformed into an 1800s style set.

Horses and vehicles from that era have been seen. Motive Pictures (YS2) Ltd, the film production company behind the series, had applied to use 77 Promenade as a filming location for the Victorian-era TV show. It said in a planning statement: “The property has been selected to represent the Eaton Square residence of one of the principal characters within the Victorian period drama.

“In order to achieve the required historical appearance, a number of temporary and fully reversible alterations are proposed to both the exterior entrance and the internal entrance hall.

“These works are intended solely to facilitate the filming and will be removed immediately following completion of the production, with the property reinstated to its existing condition.” The series was created by Matthew Parkhill and developed by Guy Ritchie and Peter Harness.
