Shoplifter flouted Gregory Hallam court order after just eight days Cheltenham

A persistent shoplifter has been jailed for 40 weeks. Gregory Hallam, 38, resumed a Cheltenham crime spree just eight days after magistrates gave him a chance of freedom. Hallam, of Queens Road, Cheltenham, appeared in court on December 22 last year and received a suspended jail term.

He was also served with a criminal behaviour order banning him from entering shops in the town. But on December 30 he flouted the order by stealing from the Co-op and Sainsbury’s. He then went on to commit four further thefts from M&S, Tesco and Cheltenham Service Station and more breaches of the order in January and February this year.
At a hearing on July 31, Hallam pleaded guilty to six charges of theft from and five of breaching his criminal behaviour order. He also admitted a breach of bail by failing to attend an earlier court hearing. He denied two further charges of driving a Peugeot Partner vehicle in Bath Terrace, Cheltenham, on August 14, 2025, with excess cocaine and Benzoylecgonine in his blood.

He will be tried on those charges on December 11. Jailing Hallam for two weeks each on the theft offences and 14 weeks for the breaches of criminal behaviour order, the court also implemented the suspended sentence. The total term imposed was 40 weeks.
Giving their reason for the immediate jail term, the magistrates said: “because the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders”. They said the fact he was subject to a suspended sentence order and started to commit new offences within eight days left them with no alternative sentencing option.
