Kids go for a quid on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway this summer

Summary

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR) is focusing on youngsters this summer, as ‘kids go free’ through the school holidays. This promotion runs through to the end of August, when up to three youngsters aged under 15 can hop aboard for just £1 each, provided they bring along a fare-paying adult or two*.

The railway has also come up with a free activities pack, to keep youngsters entertained as their heritage train gently chugs through the glorious Cotswolds on the 14-mile line between Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway. Fiona Tarbet, GWSR Marketing Officer, said: “We know times are tough with many families having to draw the purse-strings tight, so we hope this will make it easier to give children a fun day out.

“That’s not all, we have some special days coming up just for youngsters this summer too, and the £1 youngsters’ tickets give entry to all of them!” Trainmaster Kids’ Playtime Monday 27th July – Sunday 9th August 2026 (Tim Mitchell Building, Winchcombe Station).

A train ticket (not forgetting the £1 ticket for youngsters) not only includes unlimited train travel but free entry to this amazing hands-on railway-themed fun. Launched last year, it was a huge success. Adds Fiona: “Think train sets, tracks, tunnels, and endless interactive activities – kids’ imaginations will run wild for hours!” Thursday Teddy Bear Picnic Trains Thursday 6th, 13th & 20th August.

Taking teddies (or any soft toys) on a train journey is a dream come true for many youngsters. These special Thursdays offer bear-themed family fun including free craft activities, opportunities for picnics in the peaceful surroundings of Winchcombe station and, of course, a magical Cotswold steam-train journey!

Summer Holiday Family Fun & Crafts Tuesday 11 August – Sunday 23 August, in the Tim Mitchell Building at Winchcombe Station. Something new to discover each week! From colouring and model-making to locomotive-inspired crafts, there’s plenty to keep young minds entertained = free entry with a train ticket including those enjoying the ‘Kids go for £1’ offer!

Full information including train times, can be found on the railway’s website: ‘Kids go Free’ tickets are also valid for the following: Teddy Bear Thursdays and Summer Fun and Crafts . The offer excludes the Cotswold Diesel Gala, 24-26 July.

Car parking is free at Cheltenham Racecourse station (access via the main racecourse entrance off Evesham Road roundabout) and Toddington station (near the roundabout on the B4632 Broadway road and B4077 Stow road). There is a council Pay and Display car park at Broadway station which also has electric car chargers. Parking at Winchcombe station is extremely limited.
