Summary

A teenage pedestrian was rushed to hospital after being injured in a late-night hit and run in Cheltenham. The 17-year-old boy was involved in a collision with a silver Volkswagen Polo over the late May bank holiday weekend. Gloucestershire Police officers are now appealing for help to identify the driver, asking anyone who saw “a vehicle [being driven] in suspicious circumstances or erratically” to come forward.

Details

The force said it was contacted at around midnight on Sunday, May 24 after reports of a crash on the A435 Cheltenham to Bishop’s Cleeve Cycleway, near the junction for Finlay Way. A police spokesperson said: “Members of the public stopped to help the teenager before he was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment to a suspected broken ankle.

“The driver of the Volkswagen failed to stop to check on the welfare of the teenager or to provide details and continued on their journey. “Officers are now asking the driver of the Volkswagen to make contact and give an account of what happened.

“As well as this, they are asking anyone who witnessed a vehicle driving in suspicious circumstances or erratically and anyone who has dashcam footage to come forward.” Information can be provided to police online by completing the force’s online form and quoting incident 13 of 24 May.
