Keen golfers from across the construction industry enjoyed a great day at Barnwood’s charity golf day yesterday (Thursday). Seventy-five golfers representing a variety of firms took part in Barnwood’s annual event at Tewkesbury Park, raising £1,070 for two charities – Sue Ryder Leckhampton Hospice and the James Hopkins Trust.

The companies represented included Roberts Limbrick, Robert Hitchins, Ashville, Indurent, Ward Williams, Coombes Everritt, Ash & Co, Martin Commercial Properties, Evans Jones and Persimmon Homes, to name but a few. The competition took the form of a Texas Scramble with 19 mixed-up teams of four competing in fair conditions.
After several hours of competitive action, the third-placed team recorded a score of 55, the runners-up scored 54 while the winning team ended up with a score of 52 points. The winning team consisted of captain David Marks of Ward Williams, Mark Owen, editor of Punchline-Gloucester.com, Howel Morris of Rodgers Leask Ltd and Matthew Burgess, principal of Gloucestershire College.
Players then enjoyed a very nice three-course meal at Tewkesbury Park before the presentations were made. Matthew Williams, Barnwood’s new CEO , told the audience: “These days are all about the company and catching up with people. It’s been lovely hearing from so many people, for those connections.

It’s nice to see some green, to be honest with you.” He paid tribute to Barnwood’s Amelia Griffiths, marketing and communications executive; Alison Davies, PA to the directors; and Paul Fowles, construction director, for their help in organising the event. He added: “Organising events are really not easy and it’s a really big challenge. You’ve done a great job, and I think we’ve all had a really good day.
“The food has been great. It’s a really nice setting. It’s been a lovely day.
We really appreciate you all making the time to come out and hopefully we’ll keep it going on bigger and better next year.” Mark Owen, who picked up a bottle of champagne as his prize for being part of the winning team , said: “It was great to be invited along to another Barnwood Golf Day. It was good fun as always and the weather held out for us.
