Summary
A piece of artwork featuring two hares, which was on display at Cheltenham Festival, was stolen after the final day of the races. The artwork, XX, was last seen on Friday, March 13, between 9 and 9.45pm. The framed painting was packed into a van at the racecourse and moved to a location on Tewkesbury Road in Cheltenham. The painting was discovered as missing when the van was collected on Monday, March 16. The artwork was painted by Clare Haggas and is a “deeply personal” piece which took “months of detailed work to complete”. CCTV footage has been reviewed, and police have made enquiries into the theft, but no arrests have been made, the force said. Anyone who has been offered the painting for sale is asked to contact the force, quoting the incident 114 of March 19. Gloucestershire Police said: “Police received a report that a piece of artwork, which had been on display at Cheltenham Racecourse during Cheltenham Festival last month, had been stolen.”
