Cheltenham street to be closed for five days for resurfacing works

Summary

A road in Cheltenham will be closed for five days for resurfacing works to be carried out – and residents who usually park there will need to find another spot for their vehicles. The entirety of Highland Road, just off Sandy Lane will be closed starting from 9.30am this Friday (May 8).

Details

The closure will extend along Parkland Road, adjacent to Highland Road, and up along Littledown Road and Southfield Approach, to the entrance to Cheltenham Tag Rugby Club at the Old Patesians RFC ground. The road closure will be in place during the day, between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm, from Friday, May 8, until next Thursday, May 14. It will not be in place over the weekend.

No traffic will be allowed within the closure zone during these hours while work is taking place, and those who usually park on the road here will need to find alternative parking. Pedestrian access will still be maintained to properties within the closure area.

A diversion route is in place starting from the junction at Highland Road and Sandy Lane, up towards the roundabout at Greenhills Road, then along Charlton Lane and Old Bath Road, and into Everest Road, which joins the other end of the road closure. In a letter to residents last month, the Highways team stated: “We will be resurfacing the road at the above location.

To ensure the safety of you and our work force we have, under Sections 14, 15 & 16 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, made a Temporary Traffic Order to close the road. “Due to the type of engineering activities required with carriageway resurfacing, the road closure can cover an area greater than the area being resurfaced.

This is to allow activities, such as movement and placement of machinery and material. “We appreciate road closures are inconvenient, but to keep you and the team working on the road safe it is necessary. We have planned the work so we can be in and out as quickly as possible, and have tried to do it at a time that will minimise any inconvenience.”
