A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Cheltenham shoplifter who stole more than £3,000 worth of goods during 18 raids on stores including John Lewis, Tesco and Waitrose in the town. Tiago Almeida, 34 of Swindon Road, Cheltenham, was due to appear before Cheltenham Magistrates last week to be sentenced for his catalogue of crime but he did not show up. The court issued an arrest warrant without bail.

Almeida has pleaded guilty to seventeen thefts and one attempted theft, an assault on a police officer, and possession of cocaine, which was found on him when he was in the police custody suite in Gloucester. The offences stretch from March last year to July this year. Eight of his thefts were from Tesco’s in Colletts Drive, Cheltenham, where his loot included a dozen boxed Lego sets.
The total value of his thefts from the store was £1,090. On one occasion he tried to steal £73.50 worth of steaks from the same store but was caught. In three thefts from John Lewis in Cheltenham, he got away with £761 worth of sound system speakers.
