Neighbour near Bishop's Cleeve stabbing 'heard a rumpus' then saw armed police

Police were called to the scene along Finlay Way shortly after 10pm on Saturday night (July 25) to reports that a man had been assaulted and had suffered a suspected stab wound. A 21-year-old woman, Jaimee Saunders, was arrested at around 5.20am the following morning. She was charged on Tuesday, July 28 , with section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Saunders appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, and has been remanded into custody until August 28, when she is due to appear at Gloucester Crown Court.
Another woman, aged in her 50s, was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in connection with the incident. She has been released on bail with conditions. Now, residents who live close to the roundabout have described how they overheard the assault taking place on Saturday night, and saw police ‘searching the bushes’ the following day.
One elderly woman said she was listening to music in her home when she ‘heard a rumpus’ coming from a nearby property. She said: “When it happened on Saturday night I was lying here listening to music, it was about quarter past 10 at night, and all of a sudden there was a rumpus in their house, inside their doorway. “The next thing, I looked out the window and there was police out there.

The woman said she “didn’t go to bed all night”, and that a police presence remained overnight and into Sunday afternoon. She said: “The next afternoon I got up and there was a police car out there and a policewoman standing out there, so I opened the door and I was going to offer her a cup of tea. But before I could even say a word she said, ‘Can I ask you to go back in and shut the door’.
That was it, really.” Meanwhile, another woman described how she saw police searching the bushes close to the roundabout the morning after the stabbing incident. The 32-year-old, who has lived in the area for five years, said: “We saw the police, but we didn’t know exactly what had happened. We didn’t realise it was a stabbing.
“On the Sunday morning my partner took our dog for a walk and he came back and said there was loads of police around. “Then later in the day, at about midday, I did see them searching through the bushes on the corner near the roundabout. There was a policeman there stopping people from walking through that way.” She added: “It’s crazy, especially for it to happen here on this street.
