Randall and Payne and WSP Solicitors quiz raises 2400 for two Gloucestershire charities

Accountants, Randall & Payne, joined forces with solicitors, WSP, to welcome more than 20 teams to the Great Oldbury Community Centre on July 13 for their annual charity quiz night. The event raised £2,400 to be shared equally between the firms’ chosen corporate charities, Meningitis Now and Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Cheltenham.

Now in its 16th year, the event once again brought together colleagues, clients and members of the local community for an evening of fun and friendly competition, all in support of the two local causes. Teams worked through a series of challenging quiz rounds, with the lead changing hands throughout the evening.
Businesses with teams battling it out on the night included Elmrep, Nimble E-learning, HR People Support, Merretts Heating, Optimising IT, Express Legal, Bishop Fleming and Skylight9. After a closely fought contest, the Abbott family team, aptly named In First Place, emerged as overall winners.
Having started strongly, they lost a few valuable points, leaving the competition wide open, before making an impressive comeback to secure first place. The battle for second place was equally dramatic, with two teams tied on points.

A tie-break question, asking competitors to guess the number of steps to the top of crown of the Statue of Liberty saw Beth Wheadon’s team, The Quizzly Bears, claim the runner-up position with the closest answer. The evening also featured a successful raffle, with an array of prizes generously donated by local businesses.
Rob Case, managing partner , who hosted the quiz with WSP managing director Camella Cephas, said: “It was another fantastic evening and a wonderful example of the generosity of our local community. We’d like to thank everyone who entered a team, bought raffle tickets, donated prizes and helped make the event such a success.
“Raising £2,400 for Meningitis Now and Maggie’s is a fantastic achievement, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s quiz.”
