European-inspired restaurant opens in the Cotswolds

Summary

A new restaurant in the Cotswolds welcomed its first guests this week. LARDON, a European-inspired restaurant, is now officially open at Elkstone Studios, between Cheltenham and Cirencester.

Details

The new restaurant brings a fresh take to the Cotswolds’ dining scene, with ingredient-led, wood-fired cooking, a menu influenced by Tuscany, the Basque Country and Provence, and a philosophy centred around slowing down and sharing good food.

The menu spans everything from Cantabrian anchovies and Parmesan arancini to dry-aged Galician beef, handmade pasta and wood-fired fish, while the breakfast offering will encourage guests to linger over pastries, fresh juices and generous plates in a setting that feels more continental than countryside. Beyond the food, LARDON sits within Elkstone Studios, making it a great destination for a day out.

Alongside the restaurant, visitors can explore independent retailers, wellness spaces and family-friendly experiences, including the Peter Rabbit Potting Shed, making it just as appealing for weekend lunches and family visits as it is for destination dining.

John Hawes, co-founder & CEO , said: “The best hospitality prioritises quality of life, for guests and team alike, and a great restaurant should feel like an escape.

With LARDON, we wanted to bring that vision to the Cotswolds: a place where guests can slow down, eat and drink well, and experience something genuinely different.” Head chef Mikey Bain said: “LARDON is all about the kind of food we love to eat ourselves – big flavours, great ingredients and plenty of dishes made for passing around the table.

“Inspired by the warmth, traditions and conviviality of Spain, France and Italy, the menu draws on more than 20 years spent cooking in some of England’s finest kitchens, but without taking itself too seriously. “Expect generous plates, plenty of fire and smoke, and food that brings people together.

The best meals are shared with friends, a good bottle of wine and a table full of dishes, and that’s exactly what LARDON is all about.”
