Aldi in Tuesday announcement of 16 new supermarkets - full list

Summary

In a major announcement today, supermarket chain Aldi said it is going to open 16 new stores over the next few months. It has not revealed opening days, but said that new locations include Bishops Cleeve, Cheltenham, Malton, North Yorkshire, Watford and Hoxton in London, Hattersley and Wigan in Greater Manchester, and Balsall Common in the West Midlands.

Details

The latest openings support Aldi’s long-term ambition to operate 1,500 stores across the UK, helping more communities access its award-winning quality products at unbeatable prices. The announcement follows the opening of Aldi’s new Salford Quays store last month and forms part of the retailer’s planned £370 million investment in new stores during 2026.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “At Aldi, we’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK.

“Our £370 million investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi’s unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues.” Earlier this year, Aldi increased pay rates for store colleagues following a £42 million investment in pay during 2026.

The retailer said it has already installed panels at 470 stores across its UK estate but hopes to roll out the renewable technology at 62 more stores in 2026. This could include stores in Stratford-upon-Avon, Maghull, Northampton and Wrexham in the near future, it said.

Announcing the plans on Friday, the supermarket said the new installations comes as part of its £8.4 million investment in fitting solar panels at 100 stores across 2025 and 2026. Aldi said each installation can provide up to 30% of a store’s annual energy needs, helping the company to strengthen its energy resilience across its estate.
