'Full investigation' after Cheltenham bus crashes at railway crossing

An investigation has been launched after a bus crashed into a level crossing barrier in Cheltenham this morning (Wednesday, June 10). A spokesperson for coach company Pulhams said there were no passengers on board its bus at the time of the crash. The driver did not suffer any injuries, it confirmed.

Train services between Cheltenham Spa and Worcester Parkway were cancelled or delayed as a result of the disruption . Passengers travelling between the stations faced up to an hour’s wait. Pulhams said an investigation has commenced into the crash and the circumstances leading up to it.
Pictures from the scene showed one of the barriers lying in the road. Several windows along the side of a single-decker Pulhams bus were also shattered. A spokesperson for Pulhams said: “One of our vehicles was in a low-speed collision with a level crossing barrier in Alstone Lane, Cheltenham today.
No passengers were on board at the time of the incident, and thankfully our driver was uninjured.” The spokesperson added: “We apologise for the delays the incident caused for our passengers and to Network Rail services.

A full investigation into the cause of the collision has been opened.” A spokesperson for British Transport Police told GloucestershireLive: “Officers were called to a level crossing near Cheltenham at 10am today (10 June) following reports that a bus had collided with the barriers.
