A man in his 70s is in critical condition at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital after being assaulted near a Waitrose supermarket in Cheltenham on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 7:30pm on Honeybourne Way.

According to Gloucestershire Police, the victim was approached by two men on Honeybourne Way, shortly after the same two individuals had thrown a large branch at a cyclist on the Millennium Bridge. The police have released images of the two suspects and are urging anyone who recognises them to come forward.
The first suspect is described as a white male between 20 and 30 years old, of muscular build and bald. He was wearing a black t-shirt with white writing, black shorts, black socks and grey shoes.
The second suspect is also described as a white male of a similar age, who was topless at the time. He was wearing black shorts with a logo, a grey cap, white socks and grey trainers.
Forensic investigations are currently underway, with closures in place on the Honeybourne Line. These closures are expected to remain for some time.
