Gloucestershire NHS Team Wins Award for Leg Ulcer Care Redesign

Gloucestershire NHS Team Receives Prestigious Award Recognition

The One Gloucestershire Lower Limb Project Team has been awarded Highly Commended in the ‘Most Effective Contribution to Clinical Redesign’ category at the 2026 HSJ Partnership Awards. This accolade celebrates the team’s outstanding work in redesigning leg ulcer care across Gloucestershire.

Details

The project, led by NHS Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board (ICB), involves a strategic partnership with Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, primary care teams, specialist services, and healthcare solutions provider Essity UK.

The initiative aims to ensure patients receive high-quality, timely care closer to home by transforming the delivery of leg ulcer treatment. Key improvements include enhanced data collection, better support for compression therapy, and the introduction of consistent, evidence-based treatment plans across providers. These changes are designed to boost healing rates, reduce recurrence, enhance patient experience, and establish a sustainable clinical model.

The team was also named as a finalist in the ‘Best Educational Programme for the NHS’ category, in recognition of the Education and Training Standards and countywide face-to-face training developed by Sophie Belson, Professional Lead for Gloucestershire Health and Care’s Tissue Viability and Complex Leg Wound Service.
