Cheltenham students showcased their legal skills last week as the University of Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire Magistrates Association hosted the annual Gloucestershire Schools Mock Trial Competition. Nearly 350 pupils from 20 primary and secondary schools across the county took on roles as magistrates, solicitors, witnesses and court staff, demonstrating their talents in the University’s state-of-the-art Moot Court.
The three-day event, held at the Oxstalls Campus, saw students from Gloucestershire schools stepping into the shoes of legal professionals. University of Gloucestershire Law students assisted in facilitating the trials and supporting the participating schools throughout the competition.
This year’s Gloucestershire Schools Mock Trial Competition was the biggest yet, with more schools and students involved than ever before. The event has been running for several years, giving young people the chance to gain hands-on experience of the judicial system.
The Gloucestershire Schools Mock Trial Competition 2026 took place from Monday 16 March to Wednesday 18 March at the University of Gloucestershire’s Oxstalls Campus in Cheltenham.
