Diners at Number 131 on The Promenade, one of Cheltenham’s most iconic restaurants can look forward to enjoying their meals in a new permanent outdoor seating area starting this summer. The luxury boutique hotel and restaurant, owned by Superdry founder Julian Dunkerton’s Lucky Onion Group, has received approval to install a fixed structure outside its premises, providing additional capacity and shelter for customers.
Number 131, located on Cheltenham’s Promenade in the heart of the town centre, had previously relied on temporary marquees and tents during the busy Cheltenham Festival race week. However, the new permanent structure will offer a more high-quality, weather-proof option for al fresco dining throughout the year.
The structure will feature a retractable roof and side panels, allowing it to be adapted to the changeable British weather. Landscaping and planting will also be incorporated to create a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere for patrons.
The plans for the new outdoor seating area were approved by Cheltenham Borough Council earlier this year, following a public consultation process. Local residents and businesses were invited to provide feedback on the proposals, which were generally well-received.
The construction work is scheduled to begin in June 2026 and is expected to be completed by the end of July, in time for the peak summer season. The restaurant will remain open throughout the build, with some temporary disruption expected.
For further information or updates, local residents are advised to check the restaurant’s website or social media channels. Nearby residents with any concerns can also contact the council’s planning department.
