Cheltenham’s New Podcast Amplifies Young Voices on Important Issues

Cheltenham Festivals has launched a groundbreaking new podcast called VOICEBOX, giving a platform to young people to discuss the pressing challenges facing their generation. Co-hosted by BBC 1Xtra presenter Fee Mak and broadcaster Gaby Mendes, the podcast aims to tackle social, cultural and political topics through bold, fearless conversations.

Details

The launch of VOICEBOX comes at a time when youth services across the UK are facing significant budget cuts, down 10% in 2024/25 alone. With social media replacing traditional news sources for many young people, the podcast provides a vital space for young voices to be heard on the issues that matter most to them.

In its first season, VOICEBOX will feature interviews with a diverse range of guests, including award-winning women’s rights campaigner Patsy Stevenson, ‘Barrister of the Year’ Christian Weaver, and poets Hollie McNish and Laurie Bolger. The episodes will explore a wide range of topics, from combating climate change and tackling misogyny online to understanding legal rights and navigating healthcare as a neurodivergent person.

What You Need to Know

The first episode of the VOICEBOX podcast, featuring host Gaby Mendes and guest Patsy Stevenson, will be available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube from June 1st, 2025. Cheltenham Festivals has also made press materials available on their website for those interested in learning more about the podcast and its mission.
