Gloucestershire police have arrested a suspect in connection with an attempted robbery at a Cheltenham post office. The incident occurred earlier this week, with the suspect found hiding in the loft of a nearby property in possession of an imitation firearm.
On Monday, officers were called to the post office on High Street in central Cheltenham following reports of an attempted robbery. A male suspect had reportedly entered the premises and threatened staff while claiming to have a weapon, though no actual firearm was seen.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot. Police conducted a search of the local area and subsequently located the individual hiding in the loft space of a nearby residential property. An imitation gun was recovered from the suspect’s possession.
A 34-year-old man from Cheltenham has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and remains in police custody while the investigation continues. Detectives are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident or those with relevant CCTV footage to come forward and assist with the inquiry.
