Gloucestershire Residents Encouraged to Check Blood Pressure and Improve Health

The Gloucestershire Health & Care NHS Trust’s Community Outreach Vaccination and Health team, along with their One Gloucestershire health and care partners, are supporting the Blood Pressure UK campaign “Know Your Numbers” year-round. This initiative aims to help reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes in the local community.

Details

The outreach team is currently visiting locations across Gloucestershire, offering simple health checks, including blood pressure monitoring, and providing advice on lifestyle changes. These changes can include quitting smoking, improving diet, or increasing physical activity.

High blood pressure is a major cause of heart attacks and strokes, and it often goes undetected as it typically has no symptoms until it’s too late. The “Know Your Numbers” campaign encourages everyone, especially those aged 40 and over, to get their blood pressure checked and make necessary adjustments to maintain a healthy level.

In 2025, the Outreach Vaccination and Health team provided nearly 1,700 blood pressure checks at community drop-in events. Of those, 111 people were urgently referred for further care, and 50 were advised to self-refer to their GP practice, either due to their blood pressure results or other health concerns that arose during the checks.

What You Need to Know

Residents can access blood pressure checks through various means, including local pharmacies, community drop-in events, or their GP surgeries. Some may also choose to monitor their blood pressure at home using a home blood pressure monitor.
