The new town, which would be situated approximately 5 miles east of the Malvern Hills, is currently in the planning stages. If approved, it would see the construction of 3,500 new homes, along with associated commercial and community facilities. However, many local residents and environmental organisations have voiced strong opposition to the plans.
Campaigners argue that the scale and design of the development, which they say would be heavily reliant on car usage, would be incompatible with the tranquil, rural nature of the Malvern Hills. There are concerns that the influx of thousands of new residents and vehicles would damage the area’s unique ecology and views.
“This is not the right location for a massive new town,” said Jane Doe, a spokesperson for the Malvern Hills Protection Group. “The Malvern Hills are a precious landscape that should be protected, not surrounded by a sprawling, car-dependent development. This will ruin the hills forever.”
