Cheltenham Retains Title as One of the UK’s “Poshest” Towns

Cheltenham, the vibrant Gloucestershire town, has once again been recognised as one of the most prestigious and picturesque locations in the UK. In a recent ranking by The Telegraph, Cheltenham was placed second among the nation’s largest towns, narrowly missing out on the top spot to seaside town Blackpool.

Details

The town’s accolade of being the “poshest” of the UK’s 25 biggest towns was attributed to its “gracious” Montpellier district and the “grand and airy” Promenade, a shopping avenue that has stood at the heart of Cheltenham since the 1820s. Cheltenham is revered for its well-preserved Regency-style architecture, from the sash windows and ornate ironwork to the eye-catching statues and water features that line the town centre.

Local residents Maria and May expressed their appreciation for Cheltenham, with Maria stating, “I couldn’t agree more. I love Cheltenham, it’s really great. There’s all sorts of events happening here, festivals, the Cheltenham races which is very popular. There are great restaurants, places to eat. There’s a lot of nice walks, we recently went on a really nice hike up Cleeve Hill which is nearby. There’s a lot to do for all kinds of tastes.”

What You Need to Know

Until 12 April, visitors to Cheltenham can enjoy panoramic views of the town from a 36-metre tall Ferris wheel located in the Imperial Gardens. The vibrant gardens, with their blooming flowers in shades of pink, purple and yellow, offer a tranquil respite for locals and tourists alike.
