The Times and Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival is set to shine a spotlight on comics in its 2025 edition, with award-winning children’s illustrator Jamie Smart serving as the event’s first-ever Guest Curator for Comics.

Smart has curated a programme packed with events and activities celebrating the art of comics. This includes talks, workshops, and appearances from acclaimed comic creators. The goal is to introduce the Cheltenham community to the joy and creativity of the medium.

“Comics are such a vibrant, innovative art form, and I’m thrilled to be able to share my passion for them with audiences at the Cheltenham Literature Festival,” said Smart. “There’s something for everyone, from lifelong comics fans to those discovering the medium for the first time.”

The 10-day festival will take place from 10-19 October 2025, transforming Montpellier Gardens and Cheltenham Town into a hub of literary celebration. In addition to the comics programming, the festival will feature over 400 events spanning literature, music, science, and more.
