Cheltenham Easter Egg Appeal Collects Record 1,600 Treats for Children

Cheltenham Easter Egg Appeal Breaks Record with Over 1,600 Eggs Collected

A local community initiative in Cheltenham has seen unprecedented success this year, with a volunteer’s Easter egg appeal collecting over 1,600 treats for children in need. The appeal, which started as a small local effort five years ago, has grown into a major community campaign thanks to the support of the Cheltenham Round Table and other local businesses.

Details

The appeal was started by Cheltenham resident Dave Bath, who initially collected around 100 Easter eggs in the first year. However, this year the number has skyrocketed to 1,600 thanks to increased support from the community.

“A friend of mine contacted me and told me he had a lot of Easter eggs and asked if I wanted them to pass them out, too. So, that’s where that all started,” explains Dave.

The Cheltenham Round Table, a social group of young men aged 18-45, has been a key partner, donating 340 eggs and collecting hundreds more from local shops and donors. Their chairman, Ross Beamish, says he is “very proud” to have supported the appeal and hopes it will become a tradition for the group.

Other local organisations like the Cheltenham Trust and the Cheltenham Lions Club have also lent their support, and for the first time, Dave set up a GoFundMe page which received a £400 donation, leaving him overwhelmed.

“The number shows the need for it, so I hope I can get more people involved,” says Dave. “Somebody donated £400 through the GoFundMe, and when I saw that, I just started crying. It’s unreal, and even one egg – that gives one child a smile.”
