In the early hours of last Monday morning, a burglar broke into a party supply store in Cheltenham, but their attempt to escape was hilariously thwarted when they got stuck in the shop’s doorway.
The incident occurred at The Party Hut on Ambrose Street around 1:15-1:30 am on 23 March. CCTV footage captured the burglar smashing their way through the glass front door, crawling in head-first, and grabbing the cash register before trying to make their escape.
However, the burglar’s getaway was far from smooth. The hole they had created in the door was barely large enough for both the till and their body, leading to a 20-second struggle as they tried various positions to fit through. Despite their clumsiness, the burglar did eventually make it out, yanking the cash register cable to pull it through the gap.
Sharing the footage on Facebook, The Party Hut said the individual “entered the premises and removed our till and cash in a matter of minutes.” The store is appealing for any information that could assist the police investigation.
