Heartbroken Mother Calls for Change After Son’s Tragic Death from Testicular Cancer

The local community in Cheltenham is mourning the loss of Zac Summers-Cameron, a vibrant 22-year-old who passed away in November 2025 from advanced testicular cancer. His mother, Clare Summers-Taylor, 58, is now speaking out to raise awareness and ensure no other family has to endure a similar tragedy.

Details

Zac first visited his GP in June 2024 complaining of swelling and pain in his testicle. However, the doctors initially treated it as an infection, prescribing him antibiotics. Over the following months, Zac’s condition worsened, with intensifying discomfort and pain spreading down his leg, leaving him barely able to walk.

Despite repeated visits to his GP and two trips to A&E, Zac was never given a proper scan. It wasn’t until 23 September 2025 that a scan was finally conducted at Cheltenham General Hospital, revealing the devastating news – Zac had stage three testicular cancer that had already spread to his lungs, liver and abdomen.

Zac then underwent 15 months of aggressive treatment, including chemotherapy in Cheltenham and two rounds of high-dose chemotherapy with stem-cell transplants at Bristol Royal Infirmary. Tragically, he passed away on 27 November 2025 at the age of 22.

What You Need to Know

Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in younger men in the UK, with around 2,400 cases and 70 deaths each year. However, it has a 96% survival rate if caught early.

Clare Summers-Taylor is urging others to be persistent and insist on thorough testing if they have any concerns about symptoms. “If you have a lump, a swollen testicle or pain – make them investigate it properly and insist on a scan,” she said.

In Zac’s memory, his friends organised a special event called “Zac’s 44 Legacy Memorial” just two weeks before he died, celebrating his life and passions, including his vintage clothing business “Forty Four Clothing”.

Clare added: “We are absolutely devastated by his loss and cannot believe he isn’t coming back. It is especially sad to lose someone so young and we want to raise awareness. We don’t want what happened to Zac to happen to anyone else.”
